Indian Chicken Biryani Recipe.
a recipe for Indian chicken biryani:
Ingredients:
2 cups Basmati rice
1 lb chicken (cut into small pieces)
2 medium-sized onions (finely chopped)
1/2 cup plain yogurt
2 tablespoons ginger-garlic paste
2 green chilies (finely chopped)
1 teaspoon turmeric powder
1 teaspoon red chili powder
1 teaspoon cumin powder
1 teaspoon coriander powder
1 teaspoon garam masala powder
Salt (to taste)
2-3 tablespoons ghee or vegetable oil
A handful of mint leaves (finely chopped)
A handful of cilantro leaves (finely chopped)
For the rice:
Rinse the rice several times until the water runs clear. Soak the rice in water for about 30 minutes.
In a large pot, bring 8 cups of water to a boil. Add salt to taste.
Drain the rice and add it to the pot of boiling water.
Cook the rice until it is about 80% done (about 10 minutes). Drain the rice and set aside.
For the chicken:
In a large mixing bowl, combine the chicken, yogurt, ginger-garlic paste, green chilies, turmeric powder, red chili powder, cumin powder, coriander powder, garam masala powder, and salt. Mix well.
In a large skillet or pot, heat the ghee or vegetable oil over medium-high heat.
Add the chopped onions and sauté until they are soft and translucent.
Add the marinated chicken to the skillet and cook until it is browned on all sides.
Cover the skillet with a lid and let the chicken cook for another 10-15 minutes, until it is fully cooked and tender.
To assemble the biryani:
Preheat the oven to 350°F (180°C).
In a large baking dish, layer half of the cooked rice at the bottom.
Add the cooked chicken on top of the rice.
Layer the remaining rice on top of the chicken.
Sprinkle the chopped mint and cilantro on top of the rice.
Cover the baking dish tightly with foil and bake for 20-25 minutes.
Serve hot with raita or yogurt on the side. Enjoy your delicious Indian chicken biryani!
